I’m Sharla.
A 42-year-old caucasian, with dark-haired, and blue eyes.
I’m a cis female, a sister, wife, mother, and grandmother.
I’ve been married 3 times, given birth twice, I co-parent 3 bonus kids, and one grandbaby.
Our Family …
We have American, African American, European, Cherokee, and Creek Indian blood running through us.
Some are heterosexual, bi-sexual, gay, grey sexual, Christian, spiritual, agnostic, and atheists.
We are registered democrats and liberals alike.
We are diverse, to say the least.
At 5 years old I was molested for weeks on end by a male family friend.
At age 10 I was molested by a female family member.
A male employer almost raped me at age 19.
I’m a survivor.
I’m a survivor who stayed silent for too long.
I never brought charges against those who hurt me.
Help was never offered to me in my youth.
I sought out help on my own.
I was made fun of for seeking help and healing from such abuse.
I may not have needed an abortion but could have very easily needed one several times.
So many other survivors have been impregnated and will continue to be at the hand of abusers.
The Supreme Court Overturning Roe vs. Wade hits way too close to home.
It’s brought up years of complex trauma for me.
“Why, if you haven’t had an abortion?” You may be thinking …
I’ve been taken advantage of by men and women who didn’t see me as worthy of respect.
I’ve been attacked sexually and verbally.
I’ve been looked at as less than by too many people to count.
I’ve been taken advantage of without my consent and expected to just stay silent and get on with my life.
The Supreme Court decision has directly attacked all women.
The Supreme Court Overturning Roe vs. Wade is further abusing and disregarding the abused.
The Supreme Court has set the foundation for abusers to have rights over and beyond those they have hurt.
The Supreme Court justices want us to stay silent and rely on state governments to protect us.
The Supreme Court nor local officials are protecting us.
They are overreaching deep and wide.
I don’t feel our daughters nor myself are safe.
I don’t feel the LGBTQ+ community is safe.
What is next???
Fertility, IVF, contraceptives, pregnancy, abortions, DNCs aren’t decisions that should be directed by politicians.
That is a personal decision along with your doctor.
If we allow the ruling of the Supreme Court this will only be the beginning of control we thought was our own.
